Greetings from the Branch President – Mike Friesen
On behalf of our branch we extend a warm western invitation for you to join us at our monthly CAFP meetings. Our Branch usually meets on the third Monday of the month at a variety of foodservice establishments in the Calgary area; from the Fairmont Hotel, to the quaintest sushi spot, to a processing plant, to the food bank. When there are conflicts of dates, such as holidays and industry events, meetings are scheduled for a date close to the third Monday.
With close to 40 members our branch has a complete cross-section of the food industry represented, including food operations, consulting, education, food and equipment sales, food distribution, food manufacturing, healthcare, and national sales representatives. What we all have in common is a personal commitment to learning and networking. All of our meetings include a local guest speaker, a short business meeting, and time to share stories and insights about our work and business challenges. We have a reputation for having monthly gatherings that are informative, inspiring, and memorable.
For the 2008/2009 year our branch will be focused on “growing” our membership. We are poised for growth and would be pleased to have you join us to experience CAFP for yourself. Our members would tell you that the local and national friendships made through CAFP are well worth the investment of time and membership.
This Branch recently started an active Student Branch at SAIT Polytechnic that includes both Hospitality Management and Culinary students. We encourage our students to participate in senior member events, and also this year they are embarking on some exciting initiatives. We are also committed to providing students with bursaries, friendship, and exposure to all aspects of the foodservice industry.
The Calgary Branch members are proud to be the hosts of the 35th Annual CAFP National Conference in June 2009 from June 17 - 21st. Our theme is "Moving Mountains" and our host hotel is the Delta Bow Valley in the heart of downtown Calgary. We extend a personal invitation to one and all to be Alberta Bound in 2009. Please make plans now to join us for this memorable and worthwhile gathering!
