The Ottawa Branch had another great year of activities and membership growth for 2010, we held eight meetings/educational activities.
We also saw the branch grow not only in membership but in diversity of its members. Currently our branch has now grown to over 40 members, representing all aspects of the food services industry..food suppliers, institutional operators, equipment manufacturers, military food services, healthcare food services and hospitality consultants.
We are planning another 8 sessions for the 2011-2012 year, which will include a wide range of food service topics which are all voted on by our membership in advance. This voting guarantees that our educational sessions are in keeping with what our membership finds topical and interesting. We meet generally once per month (from Sept – May excluding Dec) and we are going to be meeting at the Royalton Retirement Residence in Kanata, a great location offering food, beverage and meeting space of the highest quality. Parking is also free and we deliver all of this to you for less than $20 per person per meeting. Our branch goals this year will focus on the following:
- Committed excellence in delivering topical educational sessions at our monthly meetings;
- Continue to grow our membership to reach 50 with continued food industry diversity;
- Credential at least three to five current members recognized as Credentialed Food Service Executives (CFE); and
- Mentor our new CAFP student branch at Ottawa University;
- Undertake one fundraising/charitable sponsorship event this year; and
- Actively work to having Algonquin College CAFP Student Branch reactivated.
This past year our student branch (University of Guelph, Kemptville College) and our Professional Branch here in Ottawa was honoured with three awards from our National organization at our National Conference this past May in Montreal. This recognition on all levels is a testament to our commitment to this industry and to our CAFP organization.
If you belong to the food services industry in any capacity and at any level and are interested in increasing your professional knowledge and networking within the industry you should consider the benefits of joining our organization. You will indeed be welcomed and our expectation is that you will be impressed with what we can afford you in professional development and opportunities to get to know like-minded individuals.
