THE 35th CAFP ANNUAL CONFERENCE A GREAT SUCCESS

Toronto, Ontario July 7, 2009 - The Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals/Association canadienne des professionels des services alimentaires (CAFP/ACPSA) held their 35th annual conference at the Delta Bow Valley Hotel in Calgary, in June; with the local Calgary CAFP acting as hosts and organizers. This year’s theme “Moving Mountains” targeted to professionals from all areas of the food service and hospitality industry including operators and manufacturers, sales professionals, educators, industry executives, suppliers and students. The agenda was packed with exceptional speakers, exciting social events which inspired educated and motivated 125 delegates. A wonderful partners’ program was also part of the conference allowing them to tour and learn about the great sites of Calgary.

In the foothills of the awe inspiring Rocky Mountains, the delegates reflected on what it takes to manage their daily challenges of leadership. Mountains being a powerful metaphor helped the delegates reach their peak to success.

Conference participants spent a full day with Hugh Phillips, author of the best selling book “The Trainer in You.” Phillips took the group through the custom designed workshop, based on the premise of developing our “People Smarts.”

Other speakers on the roster included John Gilchrist, author and restaurant reviewer for CBC as well as John Bragg, a local foodie with a passion for unusual recipe ingredients and sharing food stories. Tom Mitchell shared with the group what it takes to take the LEEDS challenge.

The educational sessions were balanced with social events including a pre-conference fun golf game, an evening at Stampede Park, and a nostalgic trip back in time to Heritage Park.
