CAFP Toronto Branch Senior Management
Advisory Council
BACKGROUND
The CAFP Toronto Branch Senior Management Advisory Council
(SMAC), was formed in 1999 by the late Brian Cooper, Steve Burns and Rosie Maclean,
the result of an initiative of the Toronto Branch Executive committee, to broaden
the Food Service and Hospitality industry's awareness of the missions and visions
of CAFP.
Since most of Toronto branch members were in middle management
positions, it was felt that that an initiative should be developed to
stimulate interest with the senior executives within our industry.
Initially targeting 12 senior managers in the key segments
of our industry, this initiative has been received with overwhelming enthusiasm
from the industry and now in it's tenth year of services.
SMAC GOALS
- Increase awareness of CAFP at senior management level
- Increase awareness of Foodservice and hospitality
Industry as a career option at high school level.
- Increase assistance both financially and mentoring to
students of Toronto's CAFP student branches.
- Create a speakers' forum where industry leaders have
the opportunity to meet students enrolled in Food Service related programs
at the university and college level.
- CAFP to act as the conduit between industry leaders
and educators to reach these goals.
FUTURE PLANS
- To continue to improve communications between
industry and academic leaders.
- To encourage students to participate in SMAC
programs.
- To develop a high school program that will encourage
students to consider careers in our industry.
